Trekking in Snowdonia 2006

Training Diary | January 2007

We arrived on a Firday and started off with a 6 hours walk as a bit of a warm up!

Saturday sees us up early to walk to Snowdon, where we will be camping over night on the summit ready for a quick descent on the Sunday. In total we should manage at least 20 hours trekking and get a taste for spending a night out in the elements.

Lessons Learned

Respect

Respect mother nature as she is fickle when it comes to humans!
It doesn't take long for a bad situation to become a dangerous one.

Kit

Think carefully about the kit you need including food and medicine, how much of it
Don't take too much or too little.

Wing Man

Never leave your wingman.
Regardless of situation never be further than a shout and never out of sight.

Layers

Start with the right amount of layers and have others to hand - always bear in mind you will get hot
So perhaps start with a few layers and put more on if cold.

Pack

Pack your pack in a logical order based on situations that may arise.
You stop = you need warm clothes.
It rains = you need wet weather gear and fast!
Pitch tent = you need warm clothes and the tent, then the cooking gear etc.
